  • Estimation Competition

    The CBU chapter of the Mathematical Association of Amarica (MAA) is hosting its first-ever Estimation — a competition where teams of four will work together to estimate certain values, such as the number of jelly beans in a jar.

    This event is open to all CBU faculty, staff, and students — and you don't need to be great at math (or even like math really) to win!  If you and three others think you have what it takes, submit your lineup to Nathan Sanford (nsanford@cbu.edu) or Hannah Schultz (hschultz@cbu.edu) and come estimate your winnings!

  • 2017 Vanderhaar Symposium with Shaka Senghor

Vanderhaar Symposium on Friday, March 31 to hear from author, speaker, and activist Shaka Senghor. Shaka Senghor is a leading voice in criminal justice reform and the President and Co-Founder of #BeyondPrisons, an initiative designed to uplift the voices and experiences of those impacted by the criminal justice system. His memoir, Writing My Wrongs: Life, Death and Redemption in an American Prison, was released in March 2016 and debuted on The New York Times Best Seller List as well as The Washington Post Best Seller List. An unforgettable tale of forgiveness and second chances, Writing My Wrongs reminds us that our worst deeds don’t define who we are or what we can contribute to the world. Senghor’s story has inspired thousands and serves as a powerful testament to the power of hope, compassion and unconditional love.     About the Gerard A. Vanderhaar Symposium

    Since 2005, Christian Brothers University has hosted the annual Dr. Gerard A. Vanderhaar Symposium in honor of Vanderhaar’s lifetime spent promoting peace and active nonviolence. The Symposium features a noted speaker who addresses a social and moral issue related to peace and justice and/or Catholic social teaching. Open to the public, this evening event includes the presentation of the Dr. Gerard A.     The Christian Brothers University Athletic Hall of Fame announces its Class of 2017. Former basketball player Lisa Harper Schaefer, former baseball and basketball player Frank Rozaitis, and former soccer player Anna Thorsdottir comprise this year's class, which will be inducted in a ceremony Friday, April 7 at 6 p.m. in Sabbatini Lounge. Tickets are $45 each, and a table of eight is $360. | Printable Registration Form |

    Lisa Harper Schaefer starred in basketball from 1996 to 2000, earning All-GSC honors as a sophomore and as a senior. In 84 games, she scored 1,255 points with 564 rebounds. Despite having her junior season cut short due to injury, she ranks eighth on CBU's career scoring list and 11th in rebounds. She ranks third in career scoring average and seventh in rebounding average.

    Frank Rozaitis starred in baseball from 1966 to 1969 and in basketball from 1967 to 1969. In two years on the hardwood, Rozaitis scored 657 points with 175 rebounds, averaging 13.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. On the baseball field, Rozaitis played in 80 games, hitting .345 with 98 hits, 14 doubles and 46 RBI. He ranks 11th in school history in career batting average, ninth in triples and 20th in on-base percentage and stolen bases. His five triples as a sophomore are still second-most in school history.

    Anna Thorsdottir starred in soccer from 1999 to 2001, earning First Team All-GSC honors all three seasons. As a freshman, she won both GSC Freshman of the Year and GSC Player of the Year honors. In 60 career games, she finished with 42 goals, 38 assists and 122 points. She ranks second in career assists and third in career goals and points, earning a spot on the GSC All-Time Team announced in 2010. She led CBU to two GSC championships, including a South Regional championship and a trip to the national finals as a senior.

    Last Lectures usually include the professor’s reflections on their academic career, advice for better living, and even a few laughs. One of the most beloved professors on campus whose classes are said to be transformative, Dr. Geis will not disappoint. (Note: This is not Dr. Geis' actual last lecture; he will be at CBU for a long time to come.)  The Last Lecture is open to the entire University so bring your friends to this often standing room only event. Light refreshments will be served at 12:30.
