WE ARE F1RST GEN provides holistic support to students who will be the first in their immediate family to graduate from college. Through this program, we provide students with the tools and resources they need during their transition into college until their completion. We Are Building Up a Community of Scholars!
We Are F1RST GEN Celebration 2020
Student Success is leading CBU in the National First Generation College Celebration November 2-10! The national date selected to honor the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act of 1965 is Sunday, but CBU is celebrating first generation campus community members all week! Student Success will offer engagement and spotlights via social media, as well as several synchronous events to celebrate our first-generation campus community members. If you would like to be featured on social media as first gen, please complete this online form.

Are you or someone you know a First-Generation college student? If so, head on over to Plough Library on Thursday from 12:00 to 1:00 pm and show support for the CBU first-gen community by grabbing a button as well as a sign from the swag table!

This week’s topic is “Cultivating a Mindset for Success and First-Gen Students.” Peer Mentors Antonella Reyes and Austin Brown will provide the audience with different tips regarding how to use positive self-talk in order to properly cultivate a growth mindset. • National First-Generation College Student Celebration for Students! (Thursday, 5:00-6:00 pm): Join DJ Faro and your first-generation college student peers and champions for this National First-Generation College STUDENT Celebration. Brought to you by the Council for Opportunity in Education and the Center for First-generation Student Success, this will be a fun-filled hour of music, trivia, and prizes. Engage on social media using hashtag #CelebrateFirstGen2020 to join forces with and show love to the first-gen community. • National Joint Virtual First-Generation College Celebration (Friday, 1:00-2:30 pm): The Center for First-generation Student Success and the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) welcome you to participate in the Joint Virtual First-Generation College Celebration. This joint celebration will kick-off with opening remarks from Sarah E. Whitley, PhD, assistant vice president, Center for First-generation Student Success and Maureen Hoyler, JD, president of COE, as well as feature a panel discussion about the history of the first-generation student definition, utilizing an asset-based lens.
