Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management
Program Highlights
The Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management is designed for nonprofit professionals interested in gaining knowledge and understanding of nonprofit management. Students will find the Graduate Certificate of Nonprofit Management useful to enter or re-enter the nonprofit sector, to change careers, or for advancement in their chosen organization. Each of the three courses has three academic credits.
Graduate Certificate Required Courses
NPMT 681: Fundraising and Financial Management in Nonprofit Organizations
This course examines fundraising and financial management in philanthropy from the perspective of the nonprofit practitioner. It will increase understanding of charitable giving and fundraising as well as introduce the major financial management concepts and techniques required for effective management of nonprofit organizations. Topics explored will include fundraising techniques as well as budgeting, nonprofit accounting, and financial reporting.
NPMT 682: Legal and Governance Issues in Nonprofit Organizations
This course examines the roles and responsibilities of executive leaders and the board of directors in providing strategic leadership for nonprofits as well as introducing the U.S. federal and state laws under which nonprofit organizations operate. It introduces the concepts of tax-exempt status, general liability, and regulatory compliance/reporting, while emphasizing the roles, responsibilities, processes, and powers of boards of directors and executive leaders.
NPMT 683: Practicum in Nonprofit Management
The practicum allows students to develop their nonprofit leadership skills through practical application. Students will provide analysis and recommendations for their current organization in two or more of the following areas: board governance, finance, fundraising, program evaluation, diversity and inclusion, or strategic planning. Under the supervision of faculty, students conduct assessments, analyze opportunities, and deliver implementation-ready recommendations to their organization.

Admission requirements to the Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management program are based on an
overall evaluation of your educational needs and career objectives. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s
degree from an accredited university.
