Brother Edward Salgado, FSC
was born on February 19, 1946 in La Habana, Cuba. He holds a B.A. from La Salle University, an M.S. from St. Mary’s University, and completed his Ph.D. at the University of the Philippines. He has taught in the Dominican Republic, the United States, Belgium, and served as principal of La Salle Green Hills High School in the Philippines. He has 43 years of experience in teaching, from 2nd-grade elementary to Ph.D. students (including mentoring M.S. and Ph.D. student research) — 21 years of that experience was chairing the biology departments at De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines and at CBU. Brother Edward is an active member of the Memphis Fern Society and has conducted primary research on Southeastern Asian ferns at the Natural History Museums of London and Paris, the Smithsonian Institution (Washington, DC), Royal Botanic Gardens (Kent, England), Royal Herbaria of Holland and Sweden, and the University of Zurich, Switzerland. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Haiti Medical Missions of Memphis and takes interested students on medical missions to Haiti. Brother Edward is a Professor Emeritus of Biology at CBU.
