MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Buc basketball team heads to the University of Tennessee-Martin next Monday, and the Buccaneer men’s team plays an exhibition game against the University of Memphis that same night. However, before they head to their respective games next week, the CBU community congregated in Canale Arena to cheer on their 2016-2017 teams in true Buccaneer fashion. The pep rally, entitled “Buc Madness,” consisted of contests, games, food, drink, and, of course, an ample supply of Buc Spirit. During the night of Monday, October 31, students, staff, and faculty met in Boshwit Courtyard to also indulge in a dunk tank with newly arrived campus minister, Brother Ryan Anderson, FSC, who was gracious enough to volunteer as students pitched balls with the hopes of submerging him throughout the night. Outside activities went on for about 45 minutes, after which students, staff, and faculty transitioned into Canale Arena for the remainder of Buc Madness. The remainder of the night included performances by the newly formed Buccacheer dance team, musical layups, a three-point shooting contest, dance off, and many cheers from the crowd.
Buc Madness was planned and organized through a collaboration between the office of Student Life, Student Government Association, and the Athletic Department. As a new member of the CBU community, Recreation Coordinator Chad Lassiter saw this community spirit firsthand in the planning and organization of the kickoff:
“The energy in the building was just really electric the whole night. To see the CBU community come together was awesome, and I hope that supports continues for years to come.”
