Bucs Sweep GSC Weekly Awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-The Christian Brothers University Bucs swept all three of the Gulf South Conference's weekly awards after clinching first place in the GSC with a 3-0 week last week with wins over Montevallo, Lee and Shorter.

Sophomore midfielder Diego Silva Vieira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Pitagoras) won his first Player of the Week award after he had a hand in all three game-winning goals. In last Monday's win at Montevallo, he scored on a free kick for the only goal in the Bucs' 1-0 win. Friday night against Lee, he fed a cross to Brendan Bennett (Belfast, Northern Ireland/St. Mary's Christian Brothers Grammar School) for what proved to be the game-winner in the Bucs' 2-0 win, and he wrapped up the week by scoring the game-winner in the Bucs' 3-0 win over Shorter Sunday afternoon.

Bennett won his third Freshman of the Week award of the season. In addition to the game-winner against Lee, he also scored a goal in Sunday's win over Shorter. He also won the award Sept. 9 and Oct. 7.

Britton McGuire (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) logged three straight shutouts in the week to earn his second Defender of the Week award. He made 13 saves on the week, with four at Montevallo and against Lee and five against Shorter.

The Bucs return to action Friday night at 7:15 p.m. as they visit Union.
