Joining the campus ministry team this year is Brother Ryan Anderson, FSC. Brother Ryan comes to CBU by way of Chicago, where he worked during his Novitiate year of formation. Prior to living in the Midwest, he completed a master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling at La Salle University in Philadelphia, and a B.A. in Studio Art at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota as well.
Brother Ryan grew up in the small town of Mapleton, Minnesota, with a “cornfield at the end of my block,” as he describes it. His familiarity with the Lasallian charism began in an English class as a freshman under the instruction of Brother Stephen Rusyn, FSC, at St. Mary’s. After completing his undergraduate degree, he joined the seminary for a short time before accepting a position in campus ministry at the St. Thomas More Catholic Newman Center in Mankato, MN. It was there that he discovered a deep love for working with students, and began to consider the possibility of joining the Christian Brothers.
After completing a year of working in Mankato, Brother Ryan moved forward with the formation process and simultaneously began a graduate program at La Salle University in Pastoral Counseling. From there, he was sent to work as a Novitiate in Chicago for one year before eventually being sent to work at Christian Brothers University. As Director of Campus Ministry, Brother Ryan, FSC will focus on providing spiritual and emotional support for members of the CBU community, and work to embody the Lasallian charism through the office of Campus Ministry.
