Who is Eligible?
Students who graduated in December 2016 and candidates for May and August, 2017.
Arrival Times and Location
One ceremony will be held for both master's and bachelor's degree recipients on Signagio Field at 10:00 a.m. Report to the processional line-up area in the Canale Arena. Report by 8:30 a.m. for the ceremony. Please be sure to notify all guests that they must arrive by 9:30 a.m. The Commencement exercise is estimated to last two hours.
Seating for the 2017 Commencement on Signagio Field is open. If a inclement weather call is made, each graduate will receive 4 rain tickets . All guests must have a ticket to enter the venue.
Graduates with Disabilities or Mobility Limitations
Special seating for graduates with disabilities, limited mobility will be available in the Graduate seating area. Please email email@example.com to make arrangements. Requests will only be accepted via e-mail and should be made as soon as possible.
Parking permits are not required on Commencement day. All lots are specifically designated for each member of our community. See Commencement Parking Map
This is a must attend event for graduating students. The Office of Student Life is holding a Grad Fair. The event will be held on March 28, 2017 in Sabbatini Lounge. Graduates must attend one of the two sessions (Noon - 1:30 p.m. & 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.). The average time you will need to set aside for the grad fair is about 30 minutes. Photographers will take cap and gown (loaned for the shoot) photos of graduating students at the Grad Fair. There is no sitting fee and no obligation to purchase. Proofs will be emailed to students within 48 hours of the sitting.
Custom imprinted announcements will be provided for you at the Grad Fair. Each student will receive 15 announcements. Additional announcements may be purchased for $1.00 per invitation.
Traditional academic regalia (cap and gown) is considered standard apparel for graduates at Commencement. To ensure proper sizing, graduates are encouraged to submit their regalia sizes as soon as possible. Caps and gowns will be distributed on May 11, 2016. Fraternity and sorority stoles, pins, etc. may be worn during the Commencement Exercises and the 2017 baccalaureate.
Printed programs containing the names of graduates, a list of faculty, and other information about Commencement will be distributed on Commencement day. Graduates’ programs will be on their chairs. Guests will be able to pick up their programs as they enter the Commencement area (two per family).
Except for registered members of the media and CBU staff, cameras and video equipment are not allowed in the graduate area during the ceremony. Guests are requested to be considerate of the graduates and other guests and remain in the public seating areas throughout Commencement exercises.
Restrooms in nearby buildings surrounding the Commencement Area will be open, including the Thomas Center, Nolan Engineering and Cooper-Wilson. Maps of open restrooms will be available at many locations during Commencement. Portable restrooms are located in the southeast section of Signagio Field.
In order to reduce the hazards of exposure to secondhand smoke, smoking is prohibited on CBU's campus, except for designated smoking areas.
Please turn off cell phones and personal electronic devices during the ceremony.
Dogs and other animals, other than service animals, are not permitted at Commencement or on the University grounds on Commencement day.
Pursuant to CBU adminstrative policy, alcoholic beverages are not allowed in or around the Commencement Exercises. All violators of this policy will be asked, at the least, to dispose of their open containers and remaining beverages.
An emergency first aid station will be set up near the northeast side of Signagio Field. Campus Safety Officers will be on duty in the Commencement area to assist with first aid, emergencies and lost and found. Look for signage on Commencement day.
The Memphis weather is very variable in mid-May. It may be cool, or it can be very warm, and there is little shade available at the Commencement site.
Inclement Weather Info
Students: To make it across the field without incident and/or tripping, we recommend wearing closed-toe shoes and avoiding heels on the field.
Guests: If there is rain and you don't want to watch outside, there will be a live streaming in Spain Auditorium in Buckman Hall. See www.cbu.edu/campus-map for details
* Inclement Weather Time & Location:
Our team is monitoring the weather, and IF weather conditions worsen and prevent an outdoor ceremony, we will post an announcement here, and an email and text message will be sent to the entire CBU family. This announcement would come no later than 6:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. If no announcement is made please consider that the ceremony will be held outside as scheduled.
Per fire marshal regulations, all guests are required to have tickets to enter the rain site. Unfortunately, there are no tickets available above the four (4) you have received. Participating faculty, staff, and dignitaries will NOT be required to have tickets. For those without tickets who are unable to access the rain site, CBU will provide a live broadcast of the ceremony in Spain Auditorium, Buckman Hall on CBU’s campus. No tickets are required. The mobile-friendly live stream will also be available to those who want to watch remotely via the web at http://tinyurl.com/WatchCBU.
Thank you for your understanding. We will make every possible effort to hold the graduation ceremony outside. An announcement will be made ONLY IF weather forces the ceremony inside.

Meeting Guests after the Ceremony: Graduates are urged to make arrangements before Commencement to meet family and friends after the ceremonies at the Commencement reception in Buckman Quadrangle. Please remind guests that the audience must remain in their seats during the Recessional.
