Artists' Reception: Friday, January 13, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
The Beverly and Sam Ross Gallery at CBU announces the opening of “Fused Expression,” a retrospective exhibition of work by glass artists John Littleton and Kate Vogel, on January 13. A public reception for the artists will be held that evening in the gallery, which is located on the lower level of Plough Library on the CBU campus, 5:30-7:30 p.m. The exhibition will remain on display in the gallery until May 17.
Littleton and Vogel are a husband-and-wife team of American studio glass artists who have worked collaboratively since 1979. They are considered to be among the third generation of American Studio Glass Movement artists. Glass, however, was not Littleton’s first medium of choice when it came time for him to select a career. The artists’ earliest collaborations in glass were the bag forms for which they are well-known today. Since 2000, their work has included a series of arms and hands cast in amber-colored glass. Over the years, the hands have held various objects, including river stones, large faceted glass “jewels,” and colorful cast glass leaves. Their artworks are in the collections of the High Museum of Art, Mint Museum of Art, St. Louis Art Museum, New Orleans Museum of Art, Milwaukee Art Museum, Racine Art Museum, William J. Clinton Presidential Library, Glasmuseet Ebeltoft (Denmark), Glasmuseum Frauenau (Germany), Museum of Contemporary Design and Applied Arts (Switzerland), and Christian Brothers University.
