Biography

Dr. James B. Harr, III, Assistant Professor of Literature and Languages, specializes in medieval studies, digital humanities, text technologies, and data science. He is the faculty advisor for CBU’s chapter of Sigma Tau Delta (the International English Honor Society) and a visiting lecturer for the Digital Humanities Summer Minor at the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to joining CBU, Dr. Harr was the Postdoctoral Teaching Scholar and Teaching Coordinator for the Data Science Academy at North Carolina State University, an EFL teacher for the Seoul Ministry of Education, and an Assistant Professor of English at Wake Technical Community College. He holds a B.A. in English Literature from Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania, an M.A. in Medieval English Literature from the University of Leeds in Leeds, England, and a Ph.D. in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media from NC State University, where he also earned a graduate certificate in digital humanities. 
Dr. Harr is President-Elect for the Digital Humanities Collaborative of North Carolina, an associate editor for the journal, Digital Medievalist, a regular contributor to the Studies in the Age of Chaucer Annotated Bibliography, and a review editor for Speculum: A Journal of Medieval Studies. He has presented his research at institutions such as Duke, Yale, UNC-Chapel Hill, Saint Louis University, and the University of Pennsylvania and is a recurring host for the podcast, Coding Codices. His forthcoming chapter, “Infrastructures of Power: Archives as Epistemological Palimpsests,” will be included in Libraries, Archives, and the Digital Humanities, published by Routledge and edited by Isabel Galina Russell and Glen Layne-Worthey.
