Frequently Asked Questions


We have put together a list of Frequently Asked Questions to help address some of the most common questions students raise about Graduate Engineering Programs at CBU. If you need more clarification or have questions that we haven't covered, please do not hesitate to get in touch!

How long does it take to complete the program?

You can complete all course work either in class or online within one and a half years as a full-time student or two years as a part-time student by taking two classes each semester.

When do the classes meet?

Courses are offered on Monday through Thursday evenings throughout the year. Each class meets one night a week usually from 5:30 to 8:15 p.m. for 15 weeks. All required courses and most electives courses are also recorded and made available for video streaming.

Does the schedule of classes change from year to year?

Take a look at our Course Schedule to get a general idea of which classes are offered when. Each new student fills out a Proposed Curriculum Plan of Study to ensure that class will be offered when you are ready to register for the class.

Do any of your courses have prerequisites?

There are no prerequisites for non-thesis students. This allows flexibility in course selection and entrance to the program in any semester. It is recommended that you take ENGM 600 as soon as possible when you begin the program and ENGM 690 as near the last semester as possible. Thesis students should ENGM 695 Research Methods in Engineering Management as a prerequisite to ENGM 696 and both near the end of the program as possible. All other courses may be taken in any order.

Is this a program only for engineers?

The MSEM was developed for engineers and other technical professionals. The MEM was design for quantitative business graduates.

Why is work experience recommended for admission?

Students with some industry experience learn more and contribute by bringing experiences, opinions, and perceptions into the classroom for group discussions and team projects.

I have already completed some graduate classes; can I transfer credits?

Up to nine hours of graduate credit may be accepted. Contact the Program Director for details.
