Dr. Katie Sauser
Title: Associate Professor
Length of service at CBU: Dr. Sauser has been at CBU since 1999.
Courses taught: Dr. Sauser regularly teaches BIOL 107 Environmental Biology, BIOL 109 Human Biology, BIOL 112 Principles of Biology II, BIOL 367 Pharmacology, and BIOL 370 Toxicology.
Formal Education: Dr. Sauser graduated from Immaculate Conception High School. She graduated from UT Martin with a B.S. in Biology and then earned her Masters in Marine Biology from Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida. After this she worked at UT Health Sciences as a research assistant for a few years in the Pharmacology Dept. This job kindled her interest in pharmacology and toxicology, and from there she returned to school at Memphis State and got her Ph.D. in Environmental Toxicology. After graduation she worked for a short time again at UT in the Neonatal Dept.
Background: Dr. Sauser grew up in Springfield, Ohio and moved to Memphis with her family when she was a junior in high school. She has been married to Mark for 19 years. He is a graduate of CBU and actually came to CBU as a student Brother. ("I did not meet him until several years later so his decision to not be a Brother had nothing to do with me!") He works at International Paper. They have 5 children: Maggie, Colleen, Clare; Will, and Timmy.
Interests: Dr. Sauser's hobbies/interests are reading, particularly right now discovering and reading Catholic literature, painting, hiking and spending time with her kids. She is also an instuctor in the Billings Method of Natural Family Planning for the Diocese of Memphis. (Please note there is no correlation between her effectiveness as an instructor and the number of her kids!)
