In 2016, CBU articulated its vision for the next five years and outlined the pathway towards achieving this vision. Pathways to Success: CBU Strategic Plan provides the framework for the university to grow, thrive, and ever more fully realize our mission of fostering "academic excellence in a range of programs to prepare students from all faiths and backgrounds for careers and lives informed by the Lasallian values of faith, service, and community."

The strategic plan developed from a collaborative effort that solicited ideas and input from virtually all stakeholders in the university. See the brief overview of the history of the strategic plan for further information about the development of the strategic plan.
On October 7, 2016, the strategic plan was approved by the Board of Trustees. The Strategic Plan Steering Committee then identified those initiatives that were priorities for the first phase of the plan. The Steering Committee identified one or two “Champions” for each initiative; people who have the expertise and energy to make each initiative a success. The Champions, in turn, convened working committees to outline the steps necessary to achieve the initiative. Over the course of the first phase of the plan, ten initiatives were completed. A small handful of others initiatives have been reimagined and/or continue to receive attention. By August 2018, the first phase of the plan was drawing to a close, and the Strategic Plan Steering Committee had already begun to identify initiatives for the second phase of the plan. As of September 2019, there were seven new, phase-two initiatives. As of March 2020, four of these have been completed. We invite you to familiarize yourself with the current status of the plan by exploring the Strategy Vision Map.
We are now in the second phase of the implementation of the plan. The process of identifying the next set of initiatives is well underway. The strategic plan is a guide to realizing our vision, but it is not a straitjacket. The Steering Committee meets monthly to monitor progress, retool existing initiatives if necessary, and identify new initiatives.
