A note from the President

Dear CBU Community:

Late last semester, Paul and Carolyn sent a notice to the community that we would be entering into a formal strategic planning process.  Our goal is to develop a comprehensive framework for CBU’s evolution over the next decade. We believe it is critical to the success of this process that we have meaningful input from all campus constituencies. To that end, you are invited to participate in a campus-wide planning workshop designed to gather your thoughts about CBU’s future.  Please free your calendars for 2:00 pm on February 5th, so that you can take part in this sharing session.  I believe that this will be an energizing kick-off and anticipate 100% turnout.

Dr. Kris Cohen, Vice President for Strategic Planning of CREDO, a national higher education consulting firm dedicated to strategic planning in private colleges, will facilitate the meeting.  Kris has a rich background in higher education, with a particular expertise in strategic planning.  She knows how to make sessions like this productive and fun.

The input received from the planning workshop and a similar one planned for the Trustees will be given to a Planning Team that I am appointing.  I have asked Dr. James Buchanan Wallace to head this team.  It will be charged with the responsibility of coordinating an institution-wide planning effort during this academic year.  They will provide input during the development of the plan and ongoing accountability during implementation.  The Team will present its recommendations to me in late spring of 2016.  With these recommendations in hand, I will work with the Board of Trustees to finalize the strategic plan.  Once it has final Board approval, in fall 2016, the document will serve as a roadmap for CBU’s successful growth over the next decade.

I am aware that a great deal of planning is ongoing within CBU’s schools and departments.  A goal of the Planning Team will be to assimilate this planning into a single comprehensive strategic plan.  Many of you will be asked to serve in varying capacities during the planning process.  Nothing, however, will be more important than your sincere and enthusiastic participation in the initial brain storming session February 5th. If, for some reason, you just cannot attend, please contact Melanie Bremer at mbremer@cbu.edu or 321-3256 and let her know. Otherwise, I will plan to see all of you there.

As we develop more details around the strategic planning process, I will make sure to keep you informed.  At this time, however, I wanted to make sure that your calendars are free from 2:00 – 4:30 pm on February 5, 2016.  We promise a rewarding experience centered on CBU’s future success.
