Each student will take two courses over the five week period:
British Culture and Heritage
"This module seeks to raise awareness of British culture through the application of direct experience: participants will actively engage in featured cultural activities in order to evaluate and compare with their own cultures. The British culture and heritage module provides a deeper understanding of the context and history which has shaped British society, culture, the political landscape and the position of the United Kingdom in the global arena. The module will also support the development of students’ communication skills in English, both verbal and written. There will also be a series of planned excursions to complement the study programme"
Business and Entrepreneurship
"The students will review entrepreneurial skills and small business development through theoretical concepts of enterprise, self-employment and small business management. Students will evaluate the different environments within which enterprise operates (including the rise of the digital economy) creating an awareness of emergent business types and their markets and the factors behind small business start-ups. There is also a project which involves students in developing a business idea and planning how this could be brought successfully to the market place. Students will be able to develop and improve their communication skills in English; whilst at the same time building confidence in both writing and verbal discussion. There will also be a series of planned excursions to complement the study programme."
The Literary Landscape of the North of England
"The module will introduce international students to a major theme in British literature and culture, enabling them to appreciate and interpret literary texts in detail, and to understand them in their wider historical contexts. The module will equip students to communicate their understanding and knowledge of the literary landscape in a supportive environment suitable for international learners. Students will be able to develop and improve their communication skills in English; whilst at the same time building confidence in both writing and verbal discussion. There will also be a series of planned excursions to complement the study programme."
The cost of the 5 week Summer Semester (inclusive of a 1 week stay in London) is $5,200. This includes tuition for both courses, the one week trip to London, room and board.
