Visual & Performing Arts Scholarships

Who may apply?

High school seniors, international students, and home-schooled students who have contacted the Admissions office and completed the application process are welcome to apply. Full-time students currently majoring in Visual Art at CBU, who also will be enrolled as full-time Art majors at CBU during the following academic semester.

(Note: students in their final, graduating semester are exempt from the requirement of full-time enrollment.)

Scholarships for Undergraduate Students

  • CBU Visual Arts Scholarship
 (In coming Freshman) Up to three awards will be given to in coming freshman students who plan to major in Art as a full-time student (12 hrs or more) while at CBU. Award amounts will be determined by portfolio and need based criteria. Student must be of high moral character and meet the academic standards set by the Admissions office. Minimum high school GPA of 3.0. The scholarship may be retained each year by meeting the following criteria: Student must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and satisfactory participation in co-curricular/scholarly department activities. 
  • CBU Visual Arts Scholarship (Currently Enrolled Art Major) Up to three awards will be given to Undergraduate students with Art major, full-time study (12 hrs or more). Student must be of high moral character. Must have completed at least 1 term of full-time study at CBU. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Must plan to enroll full-time for the academic year following when scholarship is actually awarded; no graduating seniors. The student needs to have completed a FAFSA (this can be done online at scholarship may be retained by meeting the following criteria: Student must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and satisfactory participation in co-curricular/scholarly department activities.
How do I apply?

The deadline to submit all application materials is on or before April 1st, by the end of the active business day. Please deliver or mail your application disc(s)/materials to: Chair Jana Travis, Christian Brothers University, Visual Art Department, Barry Hall Rm 225, Box 77, Memphis, TN 38117. Any disc(s)/materials submitted after 5:00 pm will not be considered.

All students interested in applying for Visual Art Scholarships & Awards must complete the following requirements, submitted on a CD-ROM or DVD along with a printed application form:

  • Students must list the name of the scholarships you are applying for on the application form. You must submit no fewer than 5, but no more than 10 digital images of your original artwork in .jpeg format. Artwork must have been completed within the last two calendar years. Jpeg files must be 72 dpi, and sized to 1920 pixels in the longest dimension. Each image file must be titled in the following format: Your Last Name, Your First Name, Image Number, Title of Work.jpeg. (Example: John Doe is submitting six digital images for consideration. His first image file, CBU Red Picture, would be saved as DoeJohn01CBURedPicture.jpeg.)
