The DREAM Maker Fellowship Program provides CBU students with the opportunity to engage in a project or research-based activity on-campus with the support of a staff and/or faculty mentor. Fellowships provide educational and professional development while allowing the Fellow to gain experience in academic studies, research, or departmental objectives. Fellowships are inclusive on-campus, non-employment-based opportunities that seek to provide experiential learning for all students.

DREAM Maker projects should further students’ academic interests and/or career development and allow students to expand their knowledge and skills beyond the classroom setting. All projects must have a designated faculty or staff sponsor.

Faculty and Staff are invited to submit project proposals the semester prior to the Fellowship. Proposals will be submitted directly to the Fellowship Program POC. Example projects include:

  • Research Projects within Various Academic Departments
  • Institutional Research Data Analysis
  • Digital Archiving within the Library
  • Campus Ministry Programming
  • Academic Success Research

Selected Fellows will receive a $2000 stipend for their Fellowship experience. Fellowships will take place during the fall/spring terms, lasting approximately 15 weeks. Fellows will complete 100 hours during the semester in which they are completing the Fellowship.

Student Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a currently enrolled TheDream.US Scholar at CBU
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Has a valid SSN or ITIN at time of fellowship application

Application Submission and Selection Process

Students can email aware1@cbu.edu to apply to the Fellowship Program POC at the beginning of the semester in which they wish to complete a Fellowship. Students will identify their preferred Fellowship project(s) on the application. Students will be interviewed by POCs and respective faculty/staff mentors to confirm selection. Once selected, Fellows will complete a “Schedule Commitment Worksheet” with the faculty/staff mentor to outline the 100-hour work schedule for the term.  Students will be paid in 2 equal payments (one roughly halfway through experience; the last payment at end of experience). Parker Dewey will disburse payment(s) to the Fellows.

Expectations of Fellows

  • Project work must be completed as outlined in the “Schedule Commitment Form.”
  • Fellows must meet with TheDream.US Advisor and AVP of Career Services twice a semester in order to provide an update on project status.
  • Fellows must meet with their project mentor once a week.
  • Fellows must present on their project’s objectives and outcomes at a closing program, which will take place at the end of the term (April for Spring and December for Fall).

Expectations of Project Mentors

  • Submit a detailed project proposal that outlines project objectives, learning outcomes, and deliverables.
  • Identify the hourly schedule for the semester with the Fellow, completing the “Schedule Commitment Form.”
  • Meet with the Fellow once a week during the semester to ensure progress on project and to provide support throughout the project.
  • Participate in Closing Program at end of semester.
