MEMPHIS, TN – March 8, 2024 – Christian Brothers University is proud to announce the upcoming launch of the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchange (UN-SSE) Animation for International Women’s Day / Ring the Bell for Gender.  The animation will debut on the Times Square NASDAQ board on March 8, 2024, from 10:03 am to 10:07 am (EST). This remarkable partnership will feature the creative contributions of two CBU Visual Arts seniors, Monserrat Vazquez and Rodrigo Medina-Mejia, who conceived and crafted the animation.

The round NASDAQ tower is an anchor of Times Square. The electronic billboard contains over 10,000 square feet of space with an average daily pedestrian count of over half a million views.

“I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to work on the Times Square billboard for the UN,” said Monserrat Vazquez. “I enjoyed working as a team using our design skills to bring awareness to International Women’s Day. It’s definitely a project that has impacted me and helped me grow as a designer.”

Tiffany Grabski-Walls, UN-SSE Academy Head, expressed gratitude to the CBU team, stating, “This team has been great to work with, taking our script and moving quickly in the direction of a finished concept. We are thankful to partner with CBU students for this and many other projects.”

The Visual Arts Department at CBU has established a regular design internship with the UN-SSE, providing students with opportunities for remote experiences during the summer and academic year. Medina-Mejia and Vazquez have previously participated in this program during their time at CBU. The Visual Arts Department is committed to ongoing collaborations with the SSE and other UN Initiatives.

“Guiding students through projects that intersect with global organizations like the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchange has been incredibly rewarding,” remarked Melinda Posey, Associate Professor of Graphic Design. “Our classroom experience is like none other. At CBU, our students are empowered to leverage their talents for meaningful service on a global scale. I love seeing our mission of ‘Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve’ manifest through such an impactful client project.”

CBU extends its heartfelt appreciation to the SSE for entrusting its students with the responsibility of crafting impactful work that aligns with our classroom and mission.
