MEMPHIS, TN – Starting in the fall of 2023, Christian Brothers University is launching two new degree programs, The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) and Bachelor of Science in Construction Management. Both programs are a result of listening to the needs of the community, meeting them where they are and offering more options.

The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) degree is for anyone interested in the mental health field. This graduate level program will teach students how to be clinical mental health specialists and work in an array of settings including social services, hospitals, private practice and more.

“With more than 70 percent of the US population experiencing anxiety and depression in a post-pandemic world, CBU’s Master in Clinical Mental Health Counseling offers an opportunity for students to utilize and take the Lasallian values of faith, service and academic excellence to heart,” said Dr. Paul Dunaway Assistant Professor, Department of Behavioral Sciences.

The first professional development cohort will consist of 36 students who can graduate in as little as two years. New cohorts will start every fall and run for six consecutive semesters. Students will earn their master’s degree after completing 60 credit hours of education that also includes 700-hours of practicum and internship experience.

The program will be seeking accreditation through the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

Housed within the Civil and Environmental Department, the new Bachelor of Science in Construction Management will be the first and only one like it in the Memphis area and will provide students plenty of opportunities to earn hands on experience and learn from the pros.

Graduates of the Construction Management program are prepared to work in many different environments where management contributes to the success of construction projects. This includes roles as project manager, field superintendent, estimator and planning and scheduling.

“If you are interested in managing people, preparing a budget, planning and scheduling tasks and overseeing a job from start to finish in a wide array of projects, this is the field for you,” said Dr. Andrew Assadollahi, PE Chair and Associate Professor, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering.
