Dear Colleagues,

As I prepare to assume the role of President of Christian Brothers University, I have been working closely with Br. Chris to ensure a smooth and seamless transition in leadership. Together, we have focused on an essential question: How do we position CBU to move forward with clarity, strength, and confidence in the years ahead?

Leading a university is both an honor and a shared responsibility. In the years to come, my efforts will center on advancing CBU’s mission, expanding opportunities for students, investing in faculty and staff, deepening our partnerships in the community, and securing the University’s long-term financial health.

Just as important is the leadership team that will help guide the University’s daily work and bring this vision to life. Today, I am pleased to introduce and congratulate the colleagues who will serve in key roles on my executive team. I am grateful for their willingness to lead, their commitment to our mission, and the experience they bring to this next chapter for CBU.

Christopher “Chris” Koch will join CBU as our new Vice President for Finance and Administration. In this role, he will provide executive leadership for Finance and Administration, Financial Aid, Human Resources, ITS and the Physical Plant. A CBU graduate, Chris previously served the University as chief operating officer from 2018-2021, and his familiarity with our operations and mission will allow him to make an immediate and meaningful impact. We look forward to welcoming him back to campus on Monday, March 9.

Our national search for a new Vice President for Academic Affairs is progressing, and I’m encouraged by the applicant pool. The search committee is composed of faculty and staff. We hope to make an announcement about this critical position later in the semester.

Beth Gerl, Vice President for Student Affairs, will continue to lead the full range of student life functions, including Campus Ministry, Campus Safety, Residential Life, Aramark Services, and Events Management, to ensure a supportive, mission-centered environment that strengthens student belonging and success. Her leadership is essential to delivering the holistic, Lasallian student experience at the core of CBU’s mission.

Dr. Ricky Jackson, Interim Director of Athletics, will continue guiding the Athletics program through an evolving collegiate landscape, focusing on program innovation and student opportunity. His leadership supports CBU’s efforts to enhance competitiveness, community engagement, and student experience during a transformative moment for athletics.

Effective immediately, Ryan Flickinger will become Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, serving as the University’s chief strategist and senior partner to the President. In this role, he will lead the integrated planning and coordination of CBU’s key growth functions, including Advancement & Alumni Engagement, External Affairs, Enrollment, and Communications & Marketing, while also taking the lead in guiding CBU’s evolving partnership with Lewis University and coordinating a collaborative, campus-wide process to develop the University’s next strategic plan.

The following team members will report to Ryan:

  • Erica Mitchell, Executive Director of Enrollment Management – Lead CBU’s efforts to grow and diversify enrollment by strengthening recruitment pipelines, improving the student experience from inquiry to enrollment, and ensuring data-informed strategies that support long-term institutional sustainability.
  • Stefani Everson-Phillips, Executive Director of Communications & Marketing – Elevate CBU’s brand and visibility through integrated marketing and storytelling that highlight program innovation, student outcomes, and CBU’s value to the Mid-South, helping attract prospective students, partners, and donors.
  • Joey Preston, Assistant Vice President of Advancement & Alumni – Drive philanthropic growth and alumni engagement, securing the resources and relationships needed to fuel academic innovation, student support, and campus transformation.
  • Amy Ware, Assistant Vice President for Partnerships, Policy & Career Pathways – Expand strategic partnerships with employers, community organizations, and government stakeholders, creating career-connected pathways that align with regional workforce needs and enhance opportunities for CBU students.

I want to extend my sincere appreciation to each member of this leadership team, including those stepping into new or expanded roles and those continuing their important work.

In the coming weeks, this group will work closely with faculty, staff, and students to support the University’s priorities, strengthen enrollment and financial sustainability, and ensure that CBU continues to fulfill its Lasallian mission of educating the whole person.

Christian Brothers University has a strong foundation rooted in faith, community, and a commitment to transforming lives through education. I look forward to working with each of you as we build on that foundation and move forward together.

With gratitude,

Ron Brandon
President-Elect
