Christian Brothers University (CBU) is proud to announce a transformational $5 million cash gift from an anonymous donor, made in support of the University’s bold vision for the future of Lasallian higher education in Memphis and the Mid-South. This extraordinary act of generosity reflects confidence in CBU’s direction, and a deep belief in the University’s mission to educate the whole person – mind, heart, and spirit.
“This remarkable and faith-filled gift is a sign of God’s continued work in and through our community,” said Interim President, Br. Chris. “It affirms our mission to form graduates who are not only highly skilled, but also compassionate, ethical, and committed to serving others.”
The gift directly accelerates the strategic initiatives outlined in CBU’s vision for growth and innovation, including:
- New academic programs in AI, cybersecurity, aviation, and allied health that prepare graduates for urgent workforce needs.
- Flexible, modern pathways: online, hybrid, and accelerated options designed to meet learners where they are and expand access for first-generation, adult, and working students.
- Workforce-aligned training and partnerships that strengthen the Mid-south economy and ensure graduates are career-ready.
- Campus transformation into a regional educational hub, rooted in community, collaboration, and Lasallian values.
“This moment represents a powerful endorsement from our alumni and stakeholders – one that echoes CBU’s enduring belief that education, grounded in faith and service, has the power to transform lives and uplift communities,” stated Vice President for Advancement, Ryan Flickinger. “As we celebrate our third year of record philanthropic support, we are especially grateful for the breadth of generosity shown by so many who believe in our mission and in the future we are building.”
With 73% of CBU alumni choosing to remain in the region, fueling growth, innovation, and stability across the Memphis industries, this investment strengthens both the University and the community it serves.
“This transformational gift contributes to Christian Brothers University’s mission of raising up men and women as disciples of Jesus Christ who have the skills needed to exercise leadership in their chosen careers and in the civic communities in which they make their homes,” said Brother Michael Fehrenbach, Provincial/Visitor for the Midwest District of the Christian Brothers. “I add my deep gratitude on behalf of the De La Salle Christian Brothers.”
CBU extends heartfelt gratitude to the donor for this historic expression of trust and mission-driven generosity. Their support propels CBU’s commitment to preparing work-ready graduates who lead with integrity, guided by holistic education rooted in tradition and strengthened by grace.
