During the 2026 Commencement Ceremony on May 9, CBU proudly honored Brother Chris Englert, FSC, with an honorary Doctor of Public Service in recognition of his lifelong dedication to faith, education, and community.

Brother Chris (’77) is an alumnus of Christian Brothers College and a longtime university trustee. He was the president and CEO of Christian Brothers High School for nearly 30 years and most recently served as the interim president of CBU for two years, beginning June 1, 2024.
“Over the course of the last two years, Brother Chris has championed CBU in the community, re-energized alumni engagement and shepherded key partnerships for the future of the institution,” said Emily Sawyer Greer (’84), Chair of the Board of Trustees.

“Under his leadership, the university continued its academic excellence and sustained financial stability as recognized by our accrediting body. His daily presence and actions have reminded us of our Lasallian roots and placed importance on the mission of holistic education for those students entrusted to our care.”
The honor was a surprise for Brother Chris, who accepted with his signature humility, appreciation, and humor.
“There are quicker and easier ways to get a doctorate,” he said, pausing a beat. “… It’s been a challenge, but it’s been an honor.”
