Christian Brothers University has been approved for membership in the Mid-South Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), beginning with the 2027–28 academic year. The NAIA Council of Presidents approved CBU’s membership Monday, September 28.
“This is a proud moment for Christian Brothers University,” said Ronald L. Brandon, CBU President. “Joining the NAIA’s Mid-South Conference gives our student-athletes a stronger foundation to compete and succeed, and it reconnects us with a tradition that has always been part of who we are. I’m grateful to our coaches and staff for their continued dedication to CBU athletics, and I’m excited for what comes next.”
The move reflects CBU’s commitment to expanding opportunities for student-athletes to compete and succeed.
“We are optimistic about the opportunities this transition will create for Christian Brothers University and our student-athletes,” said Dr. Ricky Jackson, CBU’s Director of Athletics. “As we move forward, our focus will remain on supporting our teams, recruiting future Bucs, and providing a strong student-athlete experience.”
CBU is one of four institutions approved for NAIA membership for 2027–28, alongside Manchester University, Salem University and Yavapai College.

Looking Ahead
CBU plans to launch three new varsity sports, Wrestling, STUNT, and Women’s Flag Football, signaling an exciting new era for Buccaneer athletics. These high-growth sports will open doors for more student-athletes to pursue their academic and athletic goals at CBU while enhancing the university’s presence within the NAIA. The addition of these programs reflects CBU’s commitment to innovation, opportunity, and long-term growth. Together, they will bring new traditions, new rivalries, and a renewed sense of excitement on campus, helping build an even stronger, more dynamic athletics program for generations of Bucs to come.
