The Board of Trustees of Christian Brothers University (CBU) has appointed Ronald L. Brandon as the University’s next president, effective June 1, 2026. Brandon currently serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Administration and Finance and has been a member of CBU’s senior leadership team for more than eight years.
The appointment follows a period of significant institutional transition and reflects the Board’s confidence in leadership that has been closely engaged in strengthening the University’s foundation, advancing mission-centered priorities, and positioning CBU for long-term sustainability.
“Christian Brothers University is at an important moment,” said Emily Greer, Chair of the CBU Board of Trustees. “After thoughtful deliberation and discernment, the Board concluded that this is the right leadership decision for CBU at this time. Ron has been deeply engaged in the work of strengthening the University, understands the challenges and opportunities before us, and brings a steady, mission-centered approach to leadership. The Board has great confidence in his ability to lead CBU forward.”
Brandon has played a central role in guiding CBU through recent years of change, working closely with Interim President Brother Chris Englert, FSC, the Board of Trustees, and campus leadership to strengthen financial stewardship, modernize operations, and advance long-term sustainability initiatives. His leadership has included helping support the University’s shared-services partnership with Lewis University, an effort designed to enhance efficiency, collaboration, and mission alignment.
A proud CBU alumnus and first-generation, nontraditional graduate, Brandon’s career has been shaped by a commitment to mission-driven leadership in Memphis. Prior to his current role, he served as Chief Financial Officer for the Catholic Diocese of Memphis and held senior leadership roles with the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South and ProTech Systems Group.
“I am deeply honored by the Board’s trust and grateful for the opportunity to serve Christian Brothers University in this new role,” said Brandon. “CBU changed my life, and its mission continues to inspire my work. I believe strongly in the power of a Catholic, Lasallian education rooted in faith, service, and community. Together, we will continue building a University that expands opportunity for students, strengthens partnerships across Memphis, and remains sustainable and mission-focused for generations to come.”
Brother Chris Englert, who has served as interim president since 2024, emphasized the importance of the transition and expressed strong support for the Board’s decision.
“Ron Brandon has been an invaluable partner during my time as interim president,” said Brother Chris Englert, FSC. “He leads with integrity, clarity, and a deep love for this University. I have seen firsthand his commitment to our mission, our students, and our people. I am confident that CBU will be well served by his leadership as president.”
Brother Chris has long stated that his role as interim president was intended to guide the University through a defined two-year period of transition, which will conclude at the end of the academic year. Between now and June 2026, Brandon will serve as President-Elect, working closely with Brother Chris, the Board, and campus leadership to ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition.
As president, Brandon will focus on advancing CBU’s Catholic, Lasallian mission; expanding access and opportunity for students; investing in faculty and staff; strengthening partnerships that serve Memphis and the region; and ensuring long-term financial sustainability.
