Whatever you did for the least of these… you did for Me.

Why Do We Serve?
At Campus Ministry, we see service as more than a good deed—it’s a calling, and it’s one way we respond to the need for social justice. It’s how we live out the CBU Lasallian mission and help build a more just and compassionate world.
Whether motivated by faith or shared humanity, we invite you to serve with us.
Volunteering vs. Social Justice: What’s the Difference?
Both volunteering and social justice matter, but they’re not the same. We make the following distinctions:
Volunteering often involves helping out and working for free—offering your time, labor, or presence to support a cause. This could look like handing out water at a race, setting up or tearing down for an event, or sorting food donations.
Social justice, as we define it in Campus Ministry, is a deeper form of service rooted in solidarity and inspired by the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching (CST). It’s about forming relationships, standing in solidarity with others, and working towards justice for all people. This kind of service transforms everyone involved—mind, body, and spirit. Examples of justice-focused service include mentoring students in underserved schools, serving and sharing a meal with someone experiencing homelessness, or spending time with nursing home residents—not just doing for others, but being with them. Learn more about CST and its rich tradition of principles that guide our approach to justice, dignity, and the common good here. Catholic Social Teaching)
Whether through one-time volunteer opportunities or ongoing social justice commitments, we’ll help you get connected to meaningful experiences. There’s something for everyone, no matter your background, interest, or schedule. We believe everyone has something to give—and something to gain —through service, whether you’re volunteering or engaging in deeper justice work. Join us as we grow in compassion, justice, and community!

Make Social Justice Part of Your Life
Looking for something deeper? Christian Brothers University has chosen four partner organizations in light of four areas of focus: education, poverty, health, and environmental justice. Learn more below!
Fill out this form to be matched with a social justice commitment. These opportunities involve regular service, training, reflection, and prayer. You can serve weekly with a group or schedule your own time through our service coordinator.
Education
Education empowers individuals and strengthens communities. By serving in this area, we uphold the dignity of every person and support the right to learn—especially for those who are marginalized, a value rooted in Catholic Social Teaching.
Poverty
Serving those affected by poverty means standing in solidarity with the vulnerable and working toward justice. Catholic Social Teaching urges us to put the needs of the poor first through both compassion and advocacy.
Health
Health is foundational to human dignity. Through service that supports physical, mental, and emotional well-being, we live out the Gospel call to care for the sick and reflect Catholic Social Teaching’s concern for the common good.
Environmental Justice
Caring for the earth is deeply connected to caring for people. “Care for God’s Creation” is a part of Catholic Social Teaching, and it reminds us that environmental action is also a matter of justice, especially for those most affected by climate and ecological harm.
