PRESIDENT DAVID ARCHER

Prior to joining CBU, Archer was CEO at St. Francis Healthcare in Memphis from 1997 to his retirement in 2016, during which time he oversaw the additions to the healthcare system of Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett, the Ambulatory Surgery Center, the Heart & Vascular Center, and the physician-practice entity, Saint Francis Medical Partners. Before his tenure at St. Francis, he served as CEO or administrator of hospitals and healthcare centers in Missouri, California, Texas, Florida, and Arkansas.

Archer holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Purdue University, a Master of Arts in Theology from Holy Apostles College and Seminary, a Master of Public Health from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, and a Master of Business Administration from the Columbia University Business School.

Archer is heavily involved in the community, currently serving as chair of the Board of Guiding Star Memphis and previously serving on the boards of the Tennessee Hospital Association (which he chaired 2001-02), Greater Memphis Chamber, Mid-South eHealth Alliance (which he chaired 2006-07), St. Peter Villa, and Church Health. He is also a former member of the CBU Board of Trustees. He is an active member of the Order of Malta, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Catholic Medical Association. He has been honored with the Meritorious Service Award by the Tennessee Hospital Association and with the Humanitarian Award by the National Conference for Community and Justice.

“I am both proud and humbled to be a part of the distinguished 150-year history of Christian Brothers University. I definitely see a bright future for CBU and all of the members of its tight-knit community. And I plan to actively assist in honoring that history and building that future in every way that I can. By continuing CBU’s rich tradition of inclusion, access, and affordability, we will prepare our students to serve generously, lead purposefully, and live as responsible stewards for future generations.

“After all, the purpose of education is to enrich our society by providing opportunity to those we educate — the opportunity for them to succeed in life, but also the opportunity and the willingness to share their success with others and thereby build a better society and a better world. I look forward to supporting our faculty, staff, and students in pursuit of that transformational purpose. That purpose — and the Lasallian principles that guide it here at CBU — define my role as President of this university.”
