Dear CBU Community,

I know our entire CBU community is concerned and saddened by the recent incidents of violence in the Memphis community and our country. Our hearts go out to the family of Tyre Nichols and to everyone impacted by his tragic and senseless death. We also mourn for the victims, families, and communities of the recent mass shootings in California. Please remember the victims, families, and communities in your thoughts and prayers.

First and foremost, we are here for you with a support system in place to help. You are not alone in times of grief, as the University is committed to making every effort to ensure the safety and well-being of its campus community. For those who are seeking guidance to better reconcile your faith with these troubling events, please contact our Campus Ministry team at CBUministry@cbu.edu. De La Salle/Stritch Chapel will remain open all weekend for those who desire to reflect or pray. We also encourage students to visit www.cbu.edu/counseling to learn more about working directly with our therapeutic partners at the Collective Healing Space.

We will soon be sharing additional information with the campus regarding a prayer vigil that will allow us to come together as a community.

Finally, let us remember and reflect on our Lasallian core values of faith, service, and community. By embracing these core values, we can prepare ourselves to work together toward a greater good for all and to heal our city, our country, and our world. Saint John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.

In gratitude,

Dave Archer
