When asked about his current goals as a Christian Brothers University sophomore and student-athlete, Kamren D. Moore has three biggies.

Academically, he wants to earn a spot on the Dean’s List for the fourth semester in a row.

Athletically, he wants the men’s basketball team to make the Gulf South Conference tournament, and he wants to hit some personal records as a sprinter (100 meters and 200 meters) on the track team

And, spiritually, he wants to “continue to spread God’s love around campus.”

Balancing multiple responsibilities has been part of Kamren’s life for a long time, and his pursuits reflect the love and respect he has for his family.

His grandfather is a preacher, and Kamren plans to go into ministry and work with athletes, focusing on their physical, mental, and spiritual health.

His father played in the NFL, and Kamren believes the ups and downs experienced playing sports have prepared him to “work hard, have faith, and keep on going.”

And his mother is a CBU alumna and nurse practitioner who sparked his interest in basketball and told him that the classes at CBU “would be tough” but encouraged him to embrace the challenge and opportunity.

In all areas, Kamren, who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology, is succeeding at CBU and has made some big fans along the way.

“Kam Moore is a leader,” said Head Men’s Basketball Coach John T. Reilly. “He is an extremely hard worker. He is very smart. Most importantly, he sincerely cares about people. He also makes everyone in our group better every day. His spirit and enthusiasm are amazing. I mean that sincerely.”

Kamren agreed that he is a “people person,” and said “CBU’s close-knit community offers a great opportunity for me to grow and become the best version of myself.”

“Kam is a great person and has a bright future ahead of him,” said Nmeso Nnebedum, a basketball teammate who graduated from CBU last spring.  “I was extremely grateful to share the locker room with him but also blessed to call him a brother in Christ.”

Kamren’s other campus activities include serving as secretary of the Black Student Association, as secretary of CBU’s chapter of the International Honor Society in Psychology (Psi Chi), as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and as a student chaplain for the basketball and track teams.

“Kam is one of those students who just lifts the spirit: steadfast, humble, talented, and authentic,” said Wilson Phillips, the Administrative Coordinator for Student Affairs at CBU.  “Not one for the spotlight, Kam leads from within – earning respect by offering it unselfishly to others. With a quiet resilience and undeniable purpose, Kam makes an impact on his teammates and our larger campus community.”

“I often sit and thank God for the countless students he’s allowed me to meet over the years,” Phillips added. “With Kam, I’m grateful that God has used Kam to teach me.”

When considering what it means to live Lasallian, Kamren thinks of the lessons he’s learned from his CBU professors, mentors and fellow student-athletes.

“I aim to serve others like Jesus would,” he said. “To be a light and let my light shine upon others.”

Kamren is on track to graduate in spring 2028. We wish him continued success!
