Castings is CBU’s award-winning, student-edited literary & arts journal. We publish the best poetry, fiction, nonfiction/essay, fine art, graphic design, and photography our campus community has to offer. It’s an opportunity for students to showcase their talent and represent the creativity here at CBU! We invite creative submissions from all students, regardless of major. The journal is printed, bound, and distributed at the end of each Spring semester at the O’Neill Reading Series / Castings Release Party. It’s also available online.

Contests/Awards

Contest: We also sponsor an annual contest. All submissions in the following genres will automatically be considered for the annual Castings Awards in Arts & Literature: poetry, photography, fiction, fine arts, creative nonfiction, & graphic design. From each genre, first, second, and third place winners are awarded cash prizes, publication, and features at the Vincent O’Neill Reading Series/Castings launch party. Judges are selected by the editorial team each year from both the CBU faculty and the wider Memphis arts community.

Every submission we receive will be automatically considered for the awards. The top three entries in each genre will win a CASH PRIZE! The due date is Feb. 15 for both the competition and submissions to the journal.

If you are interested in working with Castings, or have any questions, please reach out to our Faculty Advisor, Dr. Karen Golightly.
