Dear Campus Community,

We received word this week that a Christian Brothers University employee has tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus. This employee was last on campus on Thursday, March 12 and was not symptomatic until after that date. We have informed members of the CBU community who have been identified as having had direct contact with the employee in the week prior to March 12.

We have also been in contact with the Shelby County Health Department and, in coordination with our service provider Aramark, we are following the CDC recommended guidelines for cleaning office and public spaces.

At this time, our campus remains closed to the public. Offices and other campus facilities should only be visited by approved personnel while others should continue to work remotely as part of the “shelter-in-place” directive for Shelby County.

Our colleague is currently managing the illness at home and is in self-isolation. Our prayers go out to our colleague and their family and we look forward to celebrating their full recovery.

We encourage you to continue to follow the guidelines of public health professionals such as the Shelby County Health Department (http://www.shelbytnhealth.com) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (https://www.cdc.gov).

If you feel sick, contact your healthcare provider and stay home away from others as much as possible. Please also notify your supervisor, dean, or director so we can help you make accommodations such as sick leave or coverage for your classes and other work.

I want to thank you for your continued efforts during this time. Your creativity and adaptability are true testaments of your commitments to our students and our mission. I wish you continued strength as we face this challenge and look forward to our safe return to our beloved campus. Until then, we remain steadfast in our work, together and by association.

Sincerely,

Paul Haught
Vice President for Academics & Student Life
