Christian Brothers University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the Bachelor's Degree and the Master's Degree.
The University is approved by the State Department of Education of Tennessee as a Teacher Training Institution. CBU is a member of the National Catholic Educational Association and the Tennessee Association of Colleges. Most programs are approved for veterans' training.
CBU was accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) in the spring of 2008 and was recently visited by an NCATE/CAEP (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation) team of examiners for reaccreditation on March 21-23, 2015. Results of the preliminary findings indicated that the CBU Department of Education has met all 6 NCATE standards. Full accreditation decisions will be made public in the fall of 2015. NCATE/CAEP accredited schools must meet rigorous standards set by the profession and members of the public. Candidates must be prepared to understand and work with diverse student populations. The University must model effective teaching practices and must have the resources, such as information technology, necessary to prepare candidates to meet new standards.
