Gadomski School of Engineering
At CBU’s Gadomski School of Engineering, academic excellence is grounded in both rigorous instruction and Lasallian values. We offer ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degrees in four engineering disciplines — Chemical, Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, preparing students for professional practice and graduate study. We also offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Management, designed for those interested in working in management, packaging technology, or robotics manufacturing fields, but who are less interested in mathematics, science, and design. Along with our undergraduate degrees, we also offer graduate programs in Engineering Management and Computer Information Systems.
The Gadomski School of Engineering offers a 50+ year legacy of individualized engineering education as a leading Christian engineering school serving students in Tennessee and the Mid-South. Our goal is to nurture the intellectual, professional, and personal development of our students as we prepare them to be effective, productive, and ethical engineers. This personalized approach sets CBU apart among engineering programs in Tennessee, particularly for students seeking a faith-centered environment with strong preparation in electrical, computer, and traditional engineering disciplines.
Why CBU Engineering
What makes the Gadomski School of Engineering distinctive:
- Successful Graduates: The Gadomski School of Engineering has an excellent placement rate at companies and firms of all sizes. We even prepare students to start their own firms. Our curriculum emphasizes practical experience and leadership development, equipping students not only for engineering careers but also for entrepreneurship and graduate study.
- Small Class Sizes: Small accredited engineering programs offering a full range of programs are rare. CBU’s small class sizes allow for meaningful interaction, individualized instruction, and a level of academic support that is difficult to find at larger engineering schools in Tennessee.
- Dedicated Faculty: As a primarily undergraduate institution, the majority of our engineering classes are taught by tenured or tenure-track faculty. The job of a faculty member is not only to teach in the classroom but to be active in research and development in their area of expertise. Faculty work directly with the undergraduate engineering students on their research projects lead to CBU undergraduate engineering students as co-authors on peer-reviewed publications, which is very uncommon at other universities. Additionally, all faculty hold a minimum of 8 office hours per week, ensuring ample opportunity for students to get the support, individualized attention, and mentoring they deserve in a challenging engineering curriculum.
- Active Student Organizations: Make a connection with other engineering students by joining one of our active student organizations. Students within the engineering program can get involved and benefit from opportunities that inspire teamwork, leadership, and improved organizational skills and creativity.
- Accreditation: All applicable engineering programs at CBU are ABET-accredited, ensuring they meet the quality standards established by the engineering profession and are recognized by employers and graduate schools nationwide.
Programs and Perks
With the advantage of small classes and available professors, the Gadomski School of Engineering allows students to experience deep, hands-on learning that is fascinating and affordable. Students gain practical experience while receiving the individualized attention that supports success in a rigorous engineering curriculum.
- Undergraduate Design Experience: Collaborate with other undergraduates on special hands-on projects that simulate “real-world” engineering challenges and hands-on learning. CBU sponsors projects for the NASA Human Rover Challenge, SAE Mini Baja Competition, ASCE Steel Bridge & Concrete Canoe Competition, and IEEE Hardware Robotics & Website Design Competition.
- Flexible Graduate Courses: Our M.S. in Engineering Management and M.S. in Computer Information Systems allow students to take courses online or on-site, whichever is more convenient. We also offer six proficiency certificates in specific areas of engineering management, allowing students to advance their careers without the commitment of a complete degree.
- Modern Laboratory Facilities: Our labs operate with high-tech industrial equipment, providing students with practical, “real-world” engineering industry experience. All of the equipment is for undergraduate use and, after appropriate training, is available for individual and group projects, providing valuable exposure to real-world engineering environments.
- Financial Assistance: Over 91% of our full-time students receive financial assistance through various federal, private, and institutional funding programs, helping make a CBU engineering education accessible to a wide range of students.
Minors
Engineering students at CBU may further tailor their academic experience by pursuing a minor alongside their major program. These minors are designed to complement core engineering studies, broaden technical knowledge, and support career goals across a range of industries.
