The heart of CBU is its academic life. Excellence in teaching and individualized attention is the hallmark of CBU. As one the South’s top universities, CBU prepares students for professional careers and advanced study in the arts, sciences, engineering, business, and teacher education and for lives of moral responsibility and constructive community involvement.

The Office of Academics is responsible for the quality of our faculty; our outstanding curriculum; student enrollment; the high caliber of our graduates; faculty development; research; and other academic operational and support programs.

Furthermore, it administers the academic policies of the University as they relate to students and faculty, helps to develop and monitor the budget of the University, and assists faculty in the identification of grant opportunities and in the preparation of grant proposals.

A Message from Dr. Paul Haught, Vice President for Academics

With well over 3,000 colleges and universities nationwide, we at CBU are fully aware that you have numerous choices. I can personally assure you that CBU will provide an outstanding educational experience at a reasonable price. Everything we do as a campus community is aimed at securing student success. We spare no effort to ensure that our students are challenged in the classroom in order to prepare them for their careers and for life. In other words, we remain stubbornly focused on academic excellence. This has been CBU’s hallmark for well over 140 years and it continues to drive the University today.

Today it is vitally important that students develop the skills which will allow them to succeed in a variety of jobs and that they gather as much work experience as possible while in college. A CBU education will enable you to achieve both. Our core curriculum and our 30+ majors seek to help students to develop strong communication skills, to think critically, and to work in teams—all qualities that employers want to see in today’s graduates. CBU undergraduates further gather extremely valuable work-related knowledge through internships, externships, and co-ops.

Helping students to develop the ability to conduct research, to analyze the data, and to interpret the results is also a top priority for the CBU faculty. Virtually every major program features a senior project during which students are engaged in research with their professors and give professional presentations at the end of the course. It is not at all surprising, then, that CBU graduates enjoy very impressive acceptance rates at medical, pharmacy, dental, nursing, physical therapy, and law schools. The same applies to graduate programs ranging from the liberal arts to engineering to the sciences.

Please permit me to conclude by saying a word about the CBU faculty, which is by far the most important group in your education. Inspired by the promise of the Christian Brothers to educate young people of all backgrounds, CBU’s faculty are the guarantors of its commitment to academic excellence. All CBU faculty members share a love of teaching and a devotion to furthering the body of knowledge. Many stay in touch with their students long after graduation.
